What does that even mean, to follow your heart? It means to go against your head and against your survival instinct. It means to ignore what everyone is doing – ignoring the path of safety, of familiarity.
It means to listen to you, not to that little voice in your head that tells you you should do x and then makes you feel guilty if you don’t. That’s not you, that’s everyone else in you.
You are the force that keeps your feet going when you think they’re falling off.
The exhilarated cry of joy when you know you’ve gone too far but survived and redrawn the borders of fear. That’s you, that’s your heart, beating, burning, pointing the way. A way away from safety and common sense, into the unknown, the undefined, the to-be-made. Will you follow that you or will you follow the everyone else in you?
Most of us rather take the road of comfortable survival, and that’s okay but some of us would rather die sometimes trying to find our own way because we feel we just have to. We have to chase the vision, even if we never reach it.
